In March 2015, the AMDA Foundation in partnership with the City of Louisville, Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the University of Louisville hosted the AMDA Foundation Town Hall: Learning About Quality Long-Term Care for You & Your Loved Ones at the Louisville Convention Center. Members of the public who were interested in learning about taking care of loved ones in long-termcare, long-term care for themselves, or caring for elders in general were encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to interact with leading health care experts.

After brief presentations by the panel, which included long-term care medical directors, physicians, nurses, and a representative from Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer’s office, proactive patients and family members were encouraged to engage panel members and ask questions about quality long-term care. The residents of Louisville and the surrounding area came to the town hall not only to learn, but to begin the conversations vital to providing their loved ones with the highest quality of care. “The key to providing quality long-term care is not solely educated and experienced medical professionals,” says AMDA Foundation President Paul Katz, MD, CMD. “It’s open communication and engagement between those professionals and proactive patients and families.”
